About the hotel

Maison De La Rose is a charming bed and breakfast in a protected town house in the Ezelstraat, in the heart of historic Bruges. The façade is officially listed as a monument and two interiors, in the neo-Renaissance style and in the style of Louis the sixteenth, are also protected. You can feel that as soon as you walk in the door: high ceilings, ornate details and a warm, almost salon-like atmosphere give the house a classic character that contrasts beautifully with the contemporary comfort in the rooms.

The B&B has several guest rooms and a spacious family formula where up to five people can stay. The family setup includes a separate living area with sitting area and dining table, an equipped kitchenette with microwave and oven, and a spacious bathroom with bath, separate shower, toilet and sink. All accommodations are equipped with modern conveniences such as television, free wireless internet, coffee and tea facilities, hair dryer and a decent desk or table, so that both couples and small families can easily settle in.

Maison De La Rose presents itself as an exclusive but homely base for exploring Bruges. The house has recently been thoroughly renovated with respect for the historic structure. Breakfast is served in one of the richly decorated salons, where classic elements and soft lighting ensure a peaceful start to the day. The owners live in the house themselves and receive guests personally, contributing to a friendly, not anonymous atmosphere. Reservations are usually made for at least two nights, although shorter stays are possible in consultation.

The surroundings

The Ezelstraat is one of the historic access roads into Bruges and runs from the medieval Ezelpoort to Markt. Maison De La Rose is located about halfway down this street, in an area where small local shops, coffee shops and craft shops alternate with old mansions. The typical Bruges street scene unfolds in front of the door: cobblestones, narrow facades and deep views to side streets that invite you to wander at your own pace.

Barely a few hundred metres from the B&B, you are on the canals, the characteristic canals of Bruges. The Jan van Eyckplaats and surroundings are a very attractive junction here, with a view of water, bridges and historic warehouses. This part of town feels a little quieter than the busy axis around the Markt, while you can still walk to the main squares and shopping streets in a few minutes.

The Ezelstraat itself is known as one of the longer shopping streets in Bruges and is a pleasant route to and from the center. Along the way, you'll pass small boutiques, delicatessen shops and local eateries, making the B&B in a neighborhood that is both practical and characterful. Due to its central location, Maison De La Rose is a logical base for those who mainly want to explore Bruges on foot and would like to return to a quiet room in a historic house in between.

Things to do in the area

• Explore the area around Jan van Eyckplein and the northern canals, where historic warehouses and small bridges provide a photogenic backdrop for a first city walk. From the B&B, you can walk there in a few minutes and you can follow the city along the water towards the center.

• Take a cultural walk to St. John's Hospital and the Church of Our Lady. Along the way, you'll pass quiet streets, small squares and some of the best-known museums, where medieval art and Bruges history come together in compact, easy-to-visit collections.

• Head north to the Sint Jakobs Quarter and to Ezelpoort, one of the preserved city gates. This walk shows the transition from the dense historic center to the greener edge with a view of the former walls and the surroundings of the vests.

Restaurants & cafes

Restaurants
• Locàle by Kok au Vin — On the same street as Maison De La Rose, Locàle serves dishes to share from a kitchen that relies heavily on regional organic products. The interior is contemporary and warm, the menu seasonal and playful, making it a great choice for an evening of dining near the B&B.

• Park Restaurant — Located just off the busiest shopping streets, this restaurant combines a classic setting with a menu that focuses on refined meat and fish dishes. Guests appreciate the quiet dining room and manicured garden terrace, making it feel like an intimate address for a more elaborate dinner.

• Guillaume — In a homely setting with visible wooden beams, Guillaume brings creative, French-inspired cuisine. The emphasis is on seasonal products and carefully designed course menus, making this address suitable for those who also want to go for culinary delights while staying in Bruges.

Cafes & bars
• Café au Lait — On a lively street near the center, you'll find Café au Lait, known for its wide range of home-made waffles and pancakes. People from Bruges love to go there for sweet treats, but you can also go there for breakfast, a simple lunch or a hot drink during a break in the city.

•'t Poatersgat — This characterful beer cellar is hidden below street level and is accessible via a discreet entrance in a side street from the center. Inside, a vaulted room with stone walls, an extensive beer list and a relaxed atmosphere invites you to chat after a day of walking around.

• De Garre — In a narrow alley near the Markt, you'll find Staminee De Garre, an intimate beer bar famous for its rich beer menu and its own triple. The wooden beams, the different floors and the quiet lighting provide a cozy setting where locals and visitors alike return.

Lunch shops
• Blackbird — Blackbird is located on Jan van Eyck Square, a plant-based breakfast and lunch bar with a view of the water. Here, colorful bowls, toasts and homemade cakes are on the menu, in a bright and stylish interior that is popular with locals and visitors alike.

• Books & Brunch — This store combines a bright kitchen with a small collection of second-hand books, creating a relaxed, almost living room atmosphere. You'll find vegetarian and organic options, salads and sandwiches, ideal for a quiet lunch break with a book at your fingertips.

• Margritt — In the Sint Amandstraat, Margritt is a cozy place to have breakfast or lunch with a view of the passing shoppers. The menu includes breakfast cakes, salads and homemade pastries, which you can order inside or on the small terrace for an informal but tasty lunch stop.

Accessibility

• From Bruges station, you can walk to Maison De La Rose in about twenty to twenty-five minutes, via a route that gradually takes you into the historic center; those who prefer to travel comfortably can take a short taxi ride.

• By car, follow the signs to the city center and then the edge around the city center, where you reach the Ezelpoort and the connection to the Ezelstraat; from there, it's a short drive to the B&B, where it's best to get out of your luggage first.

• From airports such as Brussels and Charleroi, there are direct train connections to Bruges or connections with transfers in Brussels, so a combination of plane and train remains the most convenient option for many travelers.

Parking

Maison De La Rose does not have a large private parking garage, but its location in the Ezelstraat means that there are several public options in the area. A short walk away is Ezelstraat car park, an underground payment car park in the center that is specifically designed as a starting point for a visit to the city. Thanks to the proximity of the B&B, you can leave the car safely here and continue on foot.

If you prefer to park outside the busiest core, you can use Peripheral car park Magdalenastraat, near the concert hall area. This peripheral car park is free, above ground and offers electric charging points, making it interesting for longer stays or for those traveling with an electric car. From here, you can continue on foot or with a short bus ride to the center and Ezelstraat.

Another option is P and R Waggelwater, a park and ride area along Waggelwaterstraat on the side of the hospital. This car park is also free and combines ample parking capacity with a bus connection to the city center, so you can leave the car outside the busiest ring and still get to the B&B easily. In all cases, it is advisable to check the current parking rules and any maximum parking hours before departure, as rates and conditions may evolve.

Summary

Maison De La Rose is a small-scale, elegant bed and breakfast in a listed town house in the Ezelstraat, a short walk from the Bruges canals and the Markt. The combination of rich, historic interiors and comfortable rooms with private bathrooms provides an intimate stay experience, complemented by a delicious breakfast in an attractive salon. The immediate area offers a mix of quiet streets, waterfront views and a varied range of restaurants, cafes and lunch shops, so that guests can let themselves be guided through the city without much planning. Thanks to the nearby Ezelstraat car park and a few peripheral car parks around Bruges, staying overnight by car is also practically feasible, while moving mainly on foot to and from the B&B. This makes Maison De La Rose a good choice for travelers who want to experience Bruges from an authentic home in the historic center, with enough comfort and flexibility to explore the city at their own pace.
