When you step outside Hotel Central, you immediately find yourself in one of the most iconic squares in Belgium: the Grote Markt in Bruges, surrounded by colorful stepped gables, the Provincial Court and the monumental tower of the thirteenth-century Belfry. During the day, the square is filled with carriages, market stalls and patios; in the evening, the lights and chimes provide an almost theatrical atmosphere.

A short walk away is the Burg with the town hall and the Basilica of the Holy Blood, and a little further the picturesque Reien, the canals that give Bruges its nickname Venice of the North. The narrow streets around the Markt lead to squares such as Huidenvettersplein and Vismarkt, where historic trading traditions go hand in hand with contemporary hospitality. Bar Lokal, near the Burg and therefore a few minutes' walk from Hotel Central, is a cozy coffee and lunch bar hidden in a historic building. You can drink specialty coffee among local works of art and choose from a lunch menu including soup, salads, sandwiches and small hot dishes.

Accessibility

• By train, you will arrive at Bruges Station, from where city buses and taxis will take you to the Markt area in about ten minutes. From the station, it is also a pleasant walk to the center, along wide avenues and later through the historic city center.

• Within the city center, it's easiest to get around on foot: the main sights are a short distance from Hotel Central and most streets are compact and partly car-free. For those with reduced mobility, city buses and carriage rides are an alternative to still see a lot of the city.

• Travellers arriving by car should follow the ring around Bruges and choose one of the marked parking routes to central car parks such as Centrum Station or the underground car parks in the city center. From there, you can reach the Grote Markt on foot or a short bus ride.

According to official information, Hotel Central itself does not have its own parking garage on the Markt. Therefore, guests traveling by car usually use public car parks in and around the city center. The city of Bruges encourages visitors to park in large central car parks or park and ride zones and from there to walk or by bus to the heart of the city, so that the historic center remains livable and organized.

For those who want to park as close to the Markt as possible, there are several underground garages within walking distance. Parking Biekorf, below the municipal library in the Naaldenstraat, is located about fifty metres from the Grote Markt and is one of the city's most centrally located car parks. A little further is Parking Centrum't Zand, a large underground car park on the square of the same name and the King Albert Park, where you will find ample capacity, charging stations and a good connection to the center. On the edge of the city center, near the Queen Astrid Park, Parking Pandreitje offers a relatively quiet location yet a short walk to the hotel and the Markt.

If you want to park in a price-conscious way, you can opt for Parking Centrum Station near the train station, where you can often walk to the center in a few minutes or take a free or affordable bus ticket. Please note that in the city center, payment is required everywhere during the day and that street parking is limited in time. For busy weekends or events, it's a good idea to reserve a parking space online in one of the larger car parks in advance so that you can walk to your hotel stress-free.
